Mark, most of the business of playing lap dulcimer is in the strumming end of things-- and you're doing really well with your strumming. Also, you are learning the instrument (as demonstrated by your left hand working a good bit of real estate on the fretboard).Happy strumming!

Thank you so much for the kind words, Kate. I really am having fun. The dulcimer has brought great change to my life--literally--and I'm enjoying all of the changes.

Dusty, I forgot to tell you how twisted up and backwards without my wife! Val keeps me straight and mostly proper.

Really big smiles to all y'all.

Steve, I forgot to mention that the dulcimer is a Bear Meadow Standard Hourglass. It is really nice, and I love its responsiveness and sustain--my playing is so slow that I can enjoy it, the sustain!

Big smiles to you!

Thank you for the tips Stumelia and Dusty! I'm practicing the sliding tonight. If I get nuts I may go full noter!

Thank you for the encouragement, Steve. I really like the song, too.

Really big smiles to all y'all!

This tune has special place for me as I also started with it just over 12 months ago -15 i think now and it was the first time I realised I could play a tune. I often return to itI think this tume is really good for thinking about strum pattens and timing! So keep going it gets easier and btw nice dulcimer too from what I can see of it

Mark, I think you need your wife. Without her, doesn't everything seem backwards and cockeyed? I'm just teasing you since the image in the video is reversed. You aren't lefty and we need a mirror to read your t-shirt.

I second what Strumelia says. Your strum is getting steadier and more confident. And I also think sliding your fretting fingers rather than lifting them up all the time will open new doors for you.

Thanks for sharing your progress.

I like that full sound, and you're playing is getting more precise- good progress! You have a good strong clean strum, not timid.

At some point you will probably start to naturally incorporate sliding occasionally when changing notes- and there's much fun to be had in store for you there!

So this is me away from my wife and camera and editing equipment. Me in the raw. So go easy, but be honest! I'm practicing more these days, and I'll get back into the swing of things. I've been moving so much that I've not had time to even look at my machines. Really big smiles to all y'all!
