A better-late-than-never shot at the June Challenge with some variety: twice in D, then once in A (though still in DAA tuning), then back to D at the very end. Also swapping between flatpicking and strumming, just to make things a little more complicated.
Nice your different ways, thanks
I Enjoyed listning to this, it looks fun to play!
Thanks, I'll save this , it"s my speed and beautiful.
Thanks to all for the kind words. For the history buffs, this song is older than most folks think. We typically associate it with the Carter family (early 20th cent.), but the song is actually pre-Civil War. I have a sheet music edition that I believe was published in 1860 (It's in a collection that's out on loan right now; I'll double check the date and correct if I'm wrong).
Helen, this dulcimer was made by Bill Berg: 5-string (octave string on the bass gives it that shimmering overtone), all-cherry body, oak fingerboard with (I think) rosewood overlay, 27.5 (actually close to 27 5/8) VSL. Strung 22/10 - 14 - 14/14 and tuned to DAA.
very nice take on this William!
