Dewey, you just help me clarify for myself why the dulcimer has become my go-to instrument. It is indeed simple yet you can play just about anything on it with a little creativity. Also, the sound is very attractive: clean and sweet....with a swirl of old timey mixed in. I have always loved the guitar....but its been a lifetime of work to be proficient at it so there is a bit of love-hate at times. I'm encouraged that the dulcimer may not be quite so daunting, although certainly not easy to play well. Its rewarding to be able to pick out a few tunes on it and it has taught me an awful lot about the practical aspects music theory in a very short time. In short....I'm Hooked! :) Thank you again for your kind words. CJ
Cheryl, isn't it just amazing how a simple instrument such as the dulcimer can be so captivating? I played guitar for many years. And, being a guitar player yourself, you know the instrument has no limitations beyond the person who is playing it. Any note in the "spectrum" is there. And with the variety of tones you can coax from it, the possibilities are virtually limited. Yet, when I first picked up a dulcimer and begain to tinker withi it, it captured me. Perhaps part of the challenge lies within the very simplicity that at first seems so limiting to its capabilities. It's fun to see what you can get out of the little box with three strings, and a fretboard that is short some frets. They are an amazing little instrument. And you are an amazing player to have come so far in only two months. Keep up the good work!
Thank you all for your comments and encouragement. Dewey...I've been playing for about two months now and really enjoy it. I am also a guitar and mandolin player....but dulcimer has really taken over lately! RN...I was thinking of playing it finger style, but on the CD recording, the second time through the guitar joins in and I really liked the strumming sound which made for good rhythm. Guess that's why I went for the pick! :)
Great job Cheryl keep em coming!
Sam, you would have noticed all on your own! :)
Shucks! Wish you hadn't told me it wasn't perfect

Thanks Dusty....my MMD has become my fav!
Very nice arrangement, Cheryl. Good job! I also love big, round, balanced sound of the dulcimer. You have a nice instrument there.

Great job, Cheryl! How long have you been playing the dulcimer? Nice, smooth, clean style.

Nice tune and nice playing!
Wonderful piece, Cheryl. However, I didn't expect the pick. Didn't know the name of that one.
