That is for sure. I have known the song for ever so I had it memorized but learning the tab and then singing it together was a challenge. Thanks for your comments I'm not a good singer but I like to try anyway.

HI Dana - that is a really simple and timeless rendition; the legacy of it from down years is all there. I have that song in several of my books but I have not been sure that i can really do it justice, cos I know i have a tendency to sometimes clutter things up instead of keeping it simple. It is a real challenge to bring singing and playing together. I have found that it is good groundwork to really memorise the words, and the left hand and right hand patterns. If i am learning a song from scratch I start with humming the tune whilst picking out the melody and basic left hand chord shapes. It is a question of building it up in stages, and really fixing each stage well in your memory before going onto the next stage, whether that is learning all the lyrics, or starting to work on right hand picking or whatever. I guess what I am saying is that complex tasks are more achieveable when ya break em down into do-able steps!

Thanks Flint, I've always loved the song and I'm a big Dolly Parton fan and she sang it. I'm trying to learn to sing and play at the same time. It's not as easy as you would think I found out. Working on The four Marys now.

This is great Dana. It's an old song and a good one. You give it a nice old-timey sound, too. My grandmother used to sing it.

Thanks Robin, Trying to sing and play at the same time makes my playing sound real uneven because I'm concentrating on remembering the words. But thanks

Dana, you did a nice job with this. My hat's off to anyone who can play an instrument and sing at the same time!

Hope it don't hurt no ones ears. LOL I don't play and sing together.
