This is a great site for finding the history of some of the old fiddle tunes we often hear.  How many folks know what the Pig's Foot this tune is talking about is?

@Jan-potts

When I started learning this tune, I listened to a lot of fiddle players on youtube play it. There was a different version for every player it seemed. What made it in to the video I posted here was just a big casserole of ideas from those players. There were some things I wish my hands could do like the fiddlers, but that ain't gonna happen *lol*.

You're absolutely right, Jan. We all end up in the same place at the end!

Thanks for giving it a listen.

I like this!  The A part is a bit different from what I learned--it's more intricate and I have a feeling that what I play is a more relaxed or, perhaps, lazy version.  That said, we all end up in the same place at the end!  I think I'll work on learning this more difficult version, though!

@Robin-Thompson

Thanks for the kind words Robin.

It’s a lot of fun to play and even more fun to explain exactly what a pigs foot is to my 8 year old daughter.

Wishing you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving 🙂

Robin Thompson:

Such great play of this fun-to-play old tune!
