Jamie I think you would find this programme very interesting if you can find it. It was on our only all Irish language TV channel during the week. It can be found on the TG4 player and the title of programme is Ceol na gCoillte (music of the forest).

I, too, have ancestors that came over from the Palitinate. Perhaps it is that and the fact that I live in central Pennsylvania that peaked my interest in the the Pennsylvania German zitter, a relative of the German hummel. I have two instruments for the last quarter of 19th century that I've restored plus I have examined instruments in the Mercer Museum, Landis Valley Farm and Museum, and the Smithsonian Institution.
