Hi Robin,
I hope it works out ok. So far, so good. I've only attended about 4 or 5 times, and we've been practicing for a Christmas Concert. Many of the songs are rather obscure ones which I am not familiar with.
I'm hoping that once the concert is over we can play some more fun songs, but I'll just have to wait and see. Sounds like they plan is to plan and practice for another concert somewhere.
We do have ukes, harmonica, mandolin, auto-harp and sometimes a fiddle, but what I seem to be finding is that it is all pretty regimented, with everyone playing from tabs, which is fine, but I hope there is time for a little self expression later. I don't expect that this group will ever explore any other tunings than DAd.
Would like to do dulcimer circle kind of thing.
I listened to some of your excellent original songs today, very impressive!
Thank you for the encouragement Robin. I have trouble with strumming, and not always sure how to strum for best effect, but I'm trying. Joined my local dulcimer club, and there they don't do any strumming, only playing melody with one strum per note.
Just wanted to let you know, I thought what you played on the Musical Hug was very nice - sounded great. Good going both with playing and sending a hug.
Good catch, Robin! That's a Prussia Valley 'Glamor Shot' I did several years ago..... xox
Thank you for your comments on my rendition of Man of Constant Sorrow.
Robin, many years ago now, on the old Everything Dulcimer site we did a CD where everyone who wanted to participate contributed 3 tunes. Everyone who participated received a copy, but I don't think we ever posted it anywhere.
Ken
"The dulcimer sings a sweet song."
It's a greatest hits record! Gave it a spin today 1st of many. That's some truly excellent dulcimer and guitar playing and tunes Robin. Thank you.
Thanks, that helps. If you know of someone that owns an original please let me know.
I get it. Just know your voice is a blessing, so come back after you've had some refreshing. :)
~thinking of you~ Being off of fb agrees with me very much, but there are people like you that I dearly miss connecting with!
Robin, check out how Choctaw tribe raised money for Irish Famine relief.
Hey, Robin, Thanks for your caring response about Steve. I have enjoyed your video on the the simple capo and also your video on Galax and Bagpipe Tuning. To me you are like a "Jean Ritchie" preserving and sharing a rich folk history. I would love to be a follower and a friend. John
Robin, let Mark know I was a pre-school teacher for my working time, I had to stop working at age 45, but have always had children of families I have helped involved in my life like little girly, the difference is she will be there till I am older and grayer cause her Mom respects and values what her daughter and I do for each other. Also I have been able to be there to be helpful to the family.
Not being able to have my own children this has been where God has wanted me to serve.
It pulls on the heartstrings sometimes, but it has been very positive and loving for the most part.
