Two children's songs played in noter-drone style on a slim, short scale box dulcimer made by myself in about 5 hours. The facts: poplar plywood top and (double) back), strips of oak for the sides and beech blocks (for the string nails and the zither pins) on the left and right.Length 60 cm (24"), width 20 cm (8"), height 3,7 cm (1 1/2"); scale length 54 cm (about 21 1/2"). Three strings (0.12, 0.16, 0.24) tuned to Gdg.
Really sounds bright and clear, love this little box dulcimer, very fine work Peter.
Das ist aber fabelhaft. Freut mich sehr.
Thanks, Kenneth and Leslie!
@Leslie Land: I tuned it Gdg because it has a shorter scale / VSL. But of course you can also play these songs on a DAd dulcimer - it will only sound in a "deeper" key.
Thank you, Cyndi and Mary! :)
Thank you all for your feedback!
@Marion: No, it was not a kit. But as I don't have a circular saw etc. I bought ready made wooden strips frome the DIY store, and they cut the plywood to the size you require.
@Patty, yes, you're right. I think, some of the old TMB have that as well while others have symmetrical holes. Maybe asymmetric holes bring a bit of "life" to a rather dull rectangular box...
I'd be happy to say that I had made it, nice one Peter !
John
That's great Peter. In five hours you've made a wonderful instrument. I wish I could do that. It has a lovely sound. I noticed your sound holes are asymmetrical
That's just plain cool!
This is a sound sample for the "mini" box dulcimer I have built. You can find more details here:

Youtube would not accept the format of my original video today, so I had to convert it. Video quality is bad, but I hope the sound quality is still acceptable.
