Wayfaring Stranger for 2 Dulcimers played by Maria Calfa-DePaul

description:
I used a wonderful resource called "Dulcimer Players News"
They had a wonderful two part arrangement for this song arranged by Sue Carpenter. It's supposed to be a duet but I used a looper pedal. I also forgot to mention the great dulcimer capo I used that I bought at the DAA Festival in Latham NY. Made and sold by George Haggerty! I also used a boss Looper pedal so I could play the duet by myself!
This is part of my dulcimer progress journal. As of today
May 25, 2016 I have been playing the dulcimer for 195 days
Thanks for watching.

Fantastic progress, you've been a natural since you started! This is really lovely, love the loop to play with and those cool kaleidoscope special effects, and, at the end, your little doggie! Sweet.

Oh Mary that is so nice of you to say. I do love the dulcimer so much. I've had to "limit" my playing and sort of modify it because I've gotten bad tendinitis in my left thumb :(...so sometimes the finger doesn't look as "natural" as it normally might be...but I've been seeing a chiropractor and he's been manipulating it. I'm trying to avoid going to the orthopedic doc because I'm positive he will give it an injection of cortisone and quite frankly I know they don't really last and they are not the best to have....and now luckily I've gotten my new love of the NA flute to take my mind off the dulcimer and isn't it all ironic that due to my accident I couldn't play guitar which led me to find the dulcimer....life ...a circle...

Thanks again

Maria

Hi Maria

Enjoyed  your song very much.  Nice touch.

You have come a long way in a very short period of time.  Congratulations  for your success up to this point.  Exciting, huh?

Thanks so much Terry! You have been such a strong supporter in my quest to learn this wonderful instrument (and also the NA Flute!!)

I'm glad you liked it and thanks again for the kind words!

Really sounds great Maria, love how you play this song.

Thanks so much Lexie. It was a really pretty arrangement. I bought a bunch of back copies of the magazine (since I have a lot of catching up to do having only learned about this wonderful resource a few months ago) I really like the arrangement too. I will have to eventually get her book of duets that this originally was published in!

Beautiful playing on a gorgeous dulcimer Maria.. who made it?. I was about to sell my Boss Rc3 Looper..u just reminded me why i should keep it... i am a long way from another dulcimer player! Love the special effects at the end.

Hey Helen, Thanks for watching. It's a McSpadden standard hourglass. When I called Jim Woods in early December last year I told him it was in honor of my mom who passed away the previous Valentine's day and never got to hear me play the dulcimer (as I didn't learn it until last November) I asked him for the widest grain redwood he had and told him she was a very colorful person. he chose such pretty woods. Even the walnut on the side has this cool strip!! I love it. And the tone is really pretty.

I'm glad you liked it

Maria

As you know I've been playing Wayfaring Stranger on the NAflute and then I was flipping through an old issue of DPnews That I just bought a few months ago and there it is. A beautiful arrangement by Sue Carpenter for two Dulcimers. Since I didn't have anyone to "play " with I used my looper pedal. If you watch until the very end I show it.
Thanks so much

Maria
