Thanks, Robin! The top and back are book-matched as well as the sides to themselves. The top and back pieces were cut from the same board, hence the similar grain patterns. The cherry came from a tree on my great uncle’s land just up the road that had been struck by lighting and stood dead for over a year. He gave me the trunk and I had it worked down into more manageable pieces and stored it in my shop’s loft for a couple years. It’s been the sweetest and strongest-smelling cherry wood I’ve worked with. I’ve also built some mountain banjos out of it, and still have a few pieces left.
