Warring Sparrows

musician/member name: Music

description:
A tune that I came up with on dulcimer a couple years ago, but was lost for name. In a sense it felt a bit like a march, but I couldn’t decide on a name with “march” in it. This morning while sitting on the porch having my morning coffee, the quiet between vehicles was interrupted by the cries of a few sparrows, flying around and chasing one another. The name popped into my mind while watching them, and the tune did as well.

My dulcimer (#2) was in need of a new nut. The first one was ok, made of walnut along with the dulcimer itself, but I was never happy with cut of the slot for it nor the fit on the bass side, so I made another one recently and squared the slot up, but it ended up not being hard enough as the outside strings were beginning to cut into it. I had considered a bone nut from time to time after building it, and decided to do so this afternoon. I’ve usually used ebony for the nut as well as the bridge on dulcimers following this one, which seems to work just as well as bone for steel strings.

Tuning: DAD (key of D)

A lovely tune. A keeper. Nice-sounding dulcimer, too.

Thanks, John!

Sounds more like a reel than a march to me, but it's a toe-tapper for sure!  Nice job with the tune and the nut.

Thanks!
