While classical music is not my forte (yeah, pun intended), I do appreciate a few pieces. Vivaldi’s Lute Concerto in D/Largo is one of them. I think the first time I heard this piece was from the film “The Cowboys,” granted it’s only a snippet of just the first phrase, however the melody and chord progression around measures 3-5 is what grabbed me.

A couple years ago I began working up an arrangement playing around with it on dulcimer, but didn’t have it down in its entirety. Recently, I had thought about it again and have it memorized in whole. I took a couple good takes today along with capturing some of the Fall colors, this being the second. Not perfect (though I only try my best), but I think I’ve captured the tune. Wonder what Vivaldi would’ve have thought knowing his music was being played on a dulcimer in the hills of West Virginia in 2026. Whodathunkit.

Here’s a lovely take I’d listened to and played along with recently: https://youtu.be/Juz4NiGPPP4?is=wsWDPoI5cT_1jDNY

Brandon Acker also had a nice take on theorbo with harpsichord accompaniment, but I can’t seem to find it now. Shame…
