McSpadden dulcimer, spruce/walnutThe 1st tune is a traditional Northumbrian tune from the 18th century. The rant is the national dance of Northumbria. The word itself is a corruption of "Courante", a Baroque courtly dance. The Minstrel's Fancy is more typically played as a hornpipe and is known by at least 3 other names (my favorite is "Sunshine").
Thanks Melissa!
Very nice--I love Northumbrian tunes!
Thanks Dusty! I appreciate it. :)
Very tastefully done, Brian. Chapeau! Your technique is deceptively simple, for you make it look so easy.
Val and Janene - thanks for the nice words. Glad you liked the videos. Janene - I believe I also originally learned the tune from a book by Larry Conger. I would really love to hear your take on it fingerpicked (hint, hint, hint) :)
Minstrel's Fancy--no I haven't recorded it or posted anywhere. If I find a nice pairing from what I know I'll put it up here. Not an original arrangement though, it's from Larry Conger's fiddle tunes book meant to be flatpicked. By the way..... Was listening to a number of your pieces. Great repetoire!
Hi Janene! Thank you for your kind comments. I'm glad you liked this version. I would love to hear your fingerpicked version as well. Is there a video or audio file available? (I looked, but didn't see one on FOTMD).
Brian, I love this pairing and your play is so clean and confident. Very very nice!
I play Minstre's Fancy fingerpicking style..which is my usual thing...and I loved hearing this version. Thanks!
Thank you John. I appreciate your comments very much. And of course, I'm glad you liked the tune. :)
Very nice left hand work...very controlled and great pull-offs. That's nice...very nice indeed.
