I think I read somewhere that the dulcimer she is holding was made by her husband George Pickow. The fret placement looks like a natural scale as the first fret is a fraction closer to the nut than it is to the second fret. Dana, do you know the providence of the instrument Jean is holding - it is obviously very special to her?
Great pic, Dana! I have the same hanging in my "Pickin' Parlor!" A beautiful Kentucky lady of whom my sweet mother-in-law listened while Jean strummed the sweet sounds from her dulcimer and sang those beautiful songs.
