Save the dates now for the 2025 Hindman Dulcimer Homecoming on April 24 & 25. No details yet, but once they are finalized I will post them. I think in 2025 it will be held at the Troublesome Creek Instruments factory rather than at the settlement school. More to come.
You could consider Galax players as well if looking for a teacher to hire. Kimberly Burnett, or is Phyllis Gaskins still teaching?
Ken Longfield- I am sure you could teach a noter class quite well!
Just a thought:
Noter play often seems presented as a singular style (and/or, primarily, for beginners) when there is plenty of variation with particular skills involved-- I'm thinking of, say, I.D. Stamper's play compared to the different ways Jean Ritchie used noter play. Noter technique can be quite nuanced as can various tunings.
Are there any teachers of noter playing that folks can recommend?

Thanks for telling us more about the 2025 Hindman Homecoming event, Ken.
I agree, a noter/drone style class would be a natural to include.
Even with the few problems they had it was a great event wish they would a few noter classes.
Thank you for the comment, Malcolm. I'll pass that suggestion on to the Homecoming organizers. Karly Dawn played entirely noter drone style. Are there specific things about that style that you'd like to know? We will need to find someone who wants to teach this style workshop.

I enjoyed your photos, Ken!
In online video, it was nice to see that photograph of Mike. (When I met Mike at Hindman in '15, he recommended a book to me by Verna Mae Slone which I bought. This Winter, I finally got around to reading it and am glad I did!)
Yes, Robin, that photo of Mike is a great way to honor his memory. Mike was the spark that started the Hindman Dulcimer Homecoming. He is missed by friends and colleagues, but he lives on in our memories.

As you know, this Homecoming is in the books or should we say, on video? We had a good time. There were some glitches, frustrations, etc., as well as moments of great joy and happiness. We only had four people from out of town attend this year (not counting those who did workshops or presentations). Two of those were relatives of Willow; her husband and mother. Locals who showed up at different times seemed to enjoy themselves. We talked about how to avoid some of this year's frustrations next year, if there is a next year. We all know what is happening with funding for the arts and this Homecoming relies on grant funding. Hindman is slowly recovering from the 2022 flood. What is badly needed is affordable housing, both for residents and visitors. It hard to bring people in for festivals if there is no place for them to stay. I'm thinking positive and looking forward to next year. Let me know if you think of any workshops that can be offered and I will pass them on to Doug.

Yes, Robin, I was waiting for Don to say something. He feels well enough to participate and lead his workshops.

Thanks, Ken!
I just saw Don's announcement about having had a stroke yet plans to still be at Hindman.
The new schedule is up. Ron Pen had to bow out and some of us are filling in.

Hey, @ken-longfield -- I hope you have a safe trip! I hope the presenter who had to bow out did not have to do so because of any health woes. I'll keep my eye out for the workshop change.
A week from today I'll be heading to Hindman, Ky for the the Dulcimer Homecoming. Look for some changes in the schedule and workshops in the next few days. One of the presenters had to bow out and Doug is working to schedule some other folks in his slots.

I'll be in the audience, so you won't see me. Thank you for the donation. I know they can use it.

Thanks, @ken-longfield! Looking forward to watching some events online and will donate to Troublesome Creek!
Here is the link for the 2025 Hindman Dulcimer Homecoming. It has the link for joining the Homecoming online and information for attending in person. The only tab link so far is for Don Pedi's workshops. It will be updated as more workshop leaders provide information to Doug. Hope you see you either in person or online.

Ken, I've enjoyed getting to pop into Hindman virtually and will enjoy doing so again. I greatly appreciate the fest being offered online!
Robin, you will be able to attend online if you can't be there in person. Plus you'll be able to check in to the parts of the schedule which interest you and ignore the others. You can make it fit your schedule by watching the videos after the event.
