Hang onto it Mike - if I ever make it over to USA I'd loveto play it Unless, of course, you ever want to sell it, then I could certainly find a home for it over here in Wales!!!!
I'd love to see some more photos of the instrument- I'll keep an eye out for them if you get the chance to take some.
Must dash - I have to run the desk at a jazz concert in a couple of hours.
The VSL is 35 3/4 ". Fretboard and peghead are one piece and 43" long, body is 36 3/4" long, lower bout 9 3/4", upper 8". It is definitely one of his "big ones".
I've seen the film a couple of times and have Red Wing on LP and cassette, been a fan for years.
Thanks Mike - It looks lke a long VSL but the narrow fretboard could be missleading to the eye.I have the Sourwood Mountain DVD and also an old copy of the LP Red Wing. I'm quite a fan of Ike's playing style - particularly his Am (or close!) slack tuning.
I don't have any more photos, but I can take some. No sign of bracing nor sound post(s), other than small blocks of wood periodically where the sides meet the back and top. it actually appears to be made of luan plywood.
The fingerboard is narrow, only 1". not hollow as far as I can feel/ see with the mirror. In fact, I can see two nailheads where the top is nailed to the fretboard.
Have you any more photos of this ID Stamper Mike? Have you had a look inside at te bracing and possible sound post. That's a very narrow fretboard -do you kno if it ishollowed out? I caught a glimps on the film Sourwood Mountain of the back of a fretboard Ike's was making and it looked like he had hollowed it out but it was difficult to tell.
I spent a little time last year working on Ike'splaying style and slack key tunings.

I can't wait to put strings on it & hear it. I'm a big admirer of I. D.
I'll bet that has quite a voice!
