This is just a short sound sample of the box dulcimer i made these days. The song is meant to be "Red River Valley", but I guess I didn't play it as it should be. Anyway - enjoy!I'm just discovering the benefits of the 1+ fret... :)
Very nice Peter. I'm like Rick, I'd like to slide a noter over that baby. Nonetheless, great job of playing and great video. You know Peter, I believe you could sing about that ole Cowboy living on the Red River and do a great job.
@Rick: Yes, I should try that. I've got a noter (but not a quill yet). Maybe this model is not really applicable for noter-drone playing, as it has a 1+ and 6+ fret.
But maybe during the winter I'll build a similar instrument (or something like Bill's hogfiddles?), with just staples as frets (and without 1+ and 6+) and try noter-drone on it!
About my playing: I recorded it just as I had the tune in mind. Later I listened to some other versions (with various instruments) on Youtube and I think, the 4th line / last quarter of the tune is slightly different. But: who cares?
@Yes, Patty. I had ordered an extra fretboard with the kit. And I always thought that it could be a nice surprise to come up with a box dulcimer at a family event or a birthday party and while everybody is wondering what I have in mind with that chest, I just start to play a few songs...
And this time I wanted to build something I could do all alone and with just the tools I have at home. It was not my intention to build a repro of a vintage TMB, but rather a dulcimer with a simple shape. So consequently it had to be a box dulcimer!

Thank you, Karel!
You can test it yourself at our next meeting on October 26!

Sounds real nice, Peter. I would love to slide a noter on it (and maybe whip a quill across) to see what that sounds like, too...
Very nice Peter!
Thank you all for your feedback!

Sounds good to me Peter. Did you make the box dulcimer after you put your cedar creek together? It sounds really nice
great video Peter!
Sounds great, Peter!
