Bwwwwaaahhh....fender bender!!! Karen, thanks for introducing me to your dulci's! I didn't know they were both McSpaddens...I think Walnut will be on my short list of wants in the future. John, how cool you got to meet Mr. George and get the tour. I'd like to do that someday soon......after I swing past Warren May's shop.
Rob.....yes, yes, pesky one and a half. I'm so used to it now (on my MMD too) that I forget its pesky when I strum a nice C chord down low. :) Tonight I was playing with a friend of mine in C....C F and G chords are my new friends with the 1.5. Now with the noter it is kinda in the way but I may find a way to use it.....maybe.
Thanks Cindi and Dana...I was very surprised how nice the wood was when it arrived. Bought sight unseen,
Hey Cheryl, I played the new 26VSL on the Caverns at Blanchard Springs video. I named her Count Chocula, since she's all walnut and chocolate is one of my favorite things to eat.
I also bought a new Ginger model, all walnut as well (what can I say, I'm a fan) that I played on messin with John Stinson's #2 with John. I named her Cocoa Puff. He Heee
AWESOME!!! That's pretty right there! George is very cool (he took us into the "laboratory" and let us watch him bend sides a couple of weeks ago lol). Here's a little known fact! George Looney went to work for Fender in California over 40 years ago making guitars. He replaced a guy who left Fender to make mountain dulcimers (seriously). I dunno who replaced George at Fender, but there's a rumor that George left Fender to make dulcimers as well! I'm REALLY glad he did.
Thanks ya'll. Karen, wondering how your new walnut Mac sounds??? Do you have a picture of it?? I bet its purdy!
Carrie, yeah girl I'm starting to get the impression you might possibly be a McSpadden fan....maybe.
Terry, I like the name for your dulcimer!!! I haven't named this one...I'm so uninventive in naming instruments I'll probably call this one Miss Cherry Shorty......or some such other silly name.
Beautiful Cheryl, I just bought a all walnut 26VSL from McSpadden. It was purchased right off the shelf as well. Great looking dulcimer. What did you name her?
Thanks Dusty...what amazes me most is that it is right of the shelf at McSpadden. They are putting out a first rate dulcimer for a very inexpensive price IMHO. Unless I just got lucky with this one?

That wood grain is BEAUTIFUL!
p.s. even though it does have that pesky 1 1/2 fret
One beautiful instrument, which I am sure will be played beautifully as well. Can't wait to hear it.

I can't wait to hear what your new dulcimer sounds like. When are you gonna post?
Good one Dusty! A ha ha fender hhaaaa haaa bender heee heeee!!!
LOL!!!
So John, given his history and the work he does in the "laboratory,"I guess George is a "Fender bender."

That is a beautiful looking instrument. The cherry wood alone is enough, but the contrast between the ebony and the cherry is just spectacular.
