Description:
Dulcimer tuned D a dd.In my youth I was an itinerant farm worker and labourer until I got good enough to scratch out a living as a musician.I met great characters. The tradition was to work in the woods in winter, come to Niagara in spring for the fruit farms then move on in late August,September to work in the tobacco fields of southwestern Ontario.I got out when the going was good.Life in Canada got so expensive that no one could afford to do that anymore at the wages paid[compared to factory jobs].I remember the first influx of foreign workers. All great people. It was necessary...they could live in bunkhouses[which I have done, laugh],save their money and send it back home...pretty cool.
Thanks,Robin.I neglected to say that the song was written by Woody Guthrie, the man who wrote "This land is your land".
Jamie, this is such a good song! I like everything about it and appreciate your sharing a little of the life experience behind the song.
Sorry,no extra dulcimers or mandolins...I missed one of the boxes in the "posting".part.
