A composition by Scottish violinist J.Scott Skinner. Many of his melodies have become a standard of the Canadian repertoire,"Angus Campbell"most notably.
Hi Dusty, that's interesting(6/8)...Having learned it by ear I assumed otherwise.I used to own some of the Scott Skinner books but I can't recall seeing it in print. I turned to the internet and sure enough, there it is in 6/8.
Nice playing, Jamie. It's a cool tune that uses both the 6 and the 6+ fret. Skinner originally wrote it in 6/8 time, but it's commonly played in old timey sessions as a waltz, just as you are doing so well here.
I'm curious about the mountain dulcimer/autoharp combo I used here, they both being popular in Appalachian music.I haven't found any precedents. They sound so good together(to my ears).
Thanks guys, this tune has long been a favourite of mine since I heard it in the practice room at a fiddle contest in Ontario's 70's.On another note,I had a nice N.Year's gift today.Someone bought a couple of my albums on Bandcamp.I'd completely forgotten about that effort!Anyone can listen for free if they're curious about what I do(or did) when I'm not playing dulcimer.Just be sure to type in "Jamie Snider Bandcamp" with an "i" not a "y"...
Jamie, I have always loved this song, and your rendition is incredible. Thank you very much for sharing this. I'd love to hear you sing this song! I know your vocals would suit this tune perfectly. I'm really glad you shared this, thank you very much Nate
