Pretty Wood
Photo Description:
It is tough to see, but the wood on the scroll head is so pretty! There are some reds in there that I didn't expect. I really do like carving.

I'm finally done with the rabbi's dulcimer, and it is beautiful! I'll get a video up soon--I love its voice! The action is great and the intonation is right on. I'm really proud of this one!
Nice work, Mark. I'm continuously impressed with how seriously and creatively you take your craft.
Really nice scroll, Mark.
Wish I could apprentice with you and learn some real dulcimer building skills!! Beautiful work.
These are the Wittner pegs. It's all that I use for my machines, unless I do friction pegs. They are 8.5 to 1, so they are definitely fine tuners. I'm not clear about the "not in the same place" comment, but I try to be consistent in my building. There may be a slight variation because of a design request or set up or some such. Maybe you're talking about the pegs, which are set up differently for the player. The feet are be the same.
There are really only two models I'm building now--and have been for a couple of years (I did just take a commission to design and build a unique machine based on the TN Music Box. And I'm stoked about that!). The major difference is the size of the box. But they are constructed the same, where possible. Here you can see that the string pins are set differently because of the length of the instrument. But the VSL is the same.
Big smiles to you!
Are these the wonderful pegs that have been written about that LOOK like violin pegs but are magic machines inside and are easy to tune finely? very lovely work on this dulcimer....and love the little feet...also, not in same place as others you've made. It will be a joy for him to play I'm sure. aloha, irene
