Some months ago I heard this birthday song in a film on TV - I have not heard it before and liked it immediately - it seems to be an Austrian song. Since the melody came to be a real "earworm" for me I wrote down the notes and searched for the text in the internet. If you are looking for a "new" birthday song - and possibly understand and speak German - perhaps you too would like to sing it to a dear birthday child : )
@Elvensong - thank you very much for your very kind comment - I play MD, Ukulele, alto Glockenspiel, Kalimba and soprano recorder.
Please find below the German text:
Geburtstagskind, Geburtstagskind, hör zu was ich dir sage, soviel am Himmel Sternlein stehn, wünsch ich dir schöne Tage. Bedenk was kommt, bedenk was war, heut wird in deinem Leben, dir wiederum ein neues Jahr vom lieben Gott gegeben. Ein neues Licht brennt für dies Jahr bei den Geburtstagskerzen, bleib stets gesund, bleib gut und wahr, das wünschen wir von Herzen
I try a translation:
1. Birthday child, birthday child, listen to what I am saying
as many as little stars are in the sky, I wish you happy days.
2. Remember what comes, remember what was
today in your live
a new year will be given again to you by the Dear God.
3. A new light will burn for this year among the birthday candles
stay always healthy, stay good and true, this we wish from the bottom of our hearts.

I wrote down the notes, chords and text on a sheet - if you like to receive it, please let me know.

Ariane
Wonderful, Ariane! Boy I wish we didn't have an ocean between us! Your music is captivating!
What instruments are you playing?
If you don't mind, would you post the lyrics? In German is fine, I can use google translate to get the idea.
Unless, of course, I have been telling you your music is chair instead of your music is beautiful!
Thank you for sharing your music!
