"Emma's Waltz" - Irish Traditional - Finnish Kantele

musician/member name: Music
Duration: 00:02:44
description:
"Emma's Waltz" - an Irish Traditional with Swedish/Finnish origins - played on my recently purchased 11 string Finnish Kantele.

I love the swinging and slightly melancholy melody of this beautiful waltz and would be happy if you liked it too...

(Best enjoyed with headphones!)

I’ve actually seen one before and had no idea what it was, LOL.  Yes I agree about the discovery idea.

Thank you very much, Mandy - it is always fun and interesting for me to "discover" a rather rarely played instrument. I am happy you like it.

I’ve never heard one before this!  Nice I love it.  Great job.

I am happy to read your kind comments, Geckostar97. Few weeks ago I have not heard of this instrument neither. I am still surprised of its sound. The only "disadvantage" is that the strings are kind of tight so that it is difficult for me to pluck them with my thumbs or my ring and little finger in order to learn the traditional plucking technique. I learned from a famous Finnish kantele player that modern kanteles unfortunately have these tight strings.

Thanks a lot, Dean, for your kind compliments - no I don't play celtic harp - I would love to have one jive

Thank you very much, Cynthia! I understand - but isn't it great that one can play melody as well as chords on this instrument which in this way gives astonishing variations of soundings.

That was beautiful.  Enjoyed  your song very much.   Would make superb background for some movie.  A haunting movie.

What a beautiful rendition of this haunting tune! It is hard to believe you've never played a kantele before. Do you play Celtic harp? I'll bet you would be a natural at the harp.

"If life was a waltz..." - I love this. bighug

Dang I love it, but I love it best without the chords so we can really hear the beauty of the kantele...a tenor uke would go well LOL.

I would like to share with you my first attempt on my recently purchased Finnish kantele - and as Peter said "Emma's Waltz" is predestined to be played on this Finnish traditional instrument. Hope you enjoy it...
