Thank you Benjamin. I am glad you liked it. Love is Little is a pretty tune. I don't think I'm familiar with Willow Tree. I'll have to look for that one. :)
That's good Brian. I was not aware of this tune. I do play Simple Gifts, Willow Tree and Love is Little. I love the simplicity of the song and message of Shaker tunes.

Hi Garey - yes, as you saw, it's a Shaker tune. I'm familiar with Simple Gifts and I Will Bow and Be Simple, both beautiful tunes. I'd love to hear your versions. Two of my favorite Shaker tunes are "Tree of Life", by Otis Sawyer, and Mother Has Come With Her Beautiful Song, by Paulina Springer. Do you know them? If not maybe I'll make a video for them when I have some time.If you like Shaker tunes, I would highly recommend getting the book, The Shaker Spiritual, by Daniel Patterson. As for the music - this is an extremely simple tune. If you Google this manuscript number: "MS XM-4, 230604", the first search result that comes up will take you to the music for this tune. Enjoy!
Dusty, RN, Sam - thank you! :) Dusty, I have to admit, I hadn't thought about it much since that's how I learned the tune from Bill Collins. But off-the-cuff, assuming I was tuned DGD, would be A minor, right? One reason to choose 1-4-8 tuning is because you can play a lot of faster stuff relatively easily with hammer-ons and pull-offs without ever leaving the first few frets. I don't know if that was Bill's thinking, though.
That sounds really nice. You playing is deceptively simple. I didn't notice on your other post today how warm and mellow this dulcimer sounds on.
I have to admit that between the tuning and the capo, my head is spinning trying to figure out exactly what's going on here. Obviously you're ina minor key; perhaps I'll have to be satisfied with that. Since you are not chording, there must be another reason for the 1-4-8 tuning. It would have to be an odd mode, no?

Thanks Karen!
Great tune and I love the minor sound!
Thank you very much, Mike. I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)
A minor makes sense to me. I still wonder about the tuning, though, but since I don't really know the tune I can't figure out the advantage there.

hmmmmm.... I think I like this one better than than Newhall's. Again... very well played!
