Wout, I used tab and lesson by Peter Tommerup to make my own fingerstyle arrangement. Its here on Mel Bay's dulcimer sessions archivehttp://archive.dulcimersessions.com/apr05/french.html . Its a really great lesson on traditional french dance music....a gem really. I hope you enjoy and would LOVE to see/hear you play it too!
This Blue Lion is the Jean Ritchie model...I love its tone.....its also a pretty good strummer...but not so for my BL IIR which is not a good strummer for me, but an excellent fingerpicking dulcimer.
Thanks Robin...so kind of you. And thanks for bringing me back to this post. I missed all these lovely comments so thanks to all of you for listening and encouraging me!
Beautifully played !!!! It is so good to see you working with so many different styles. I do think that switching styles really develops a persons playing across the board - it does for me anyway!
The finger style really suits the voice of your Blue Lion - wonderful tone!
Thanks thank thanks! You all are wwwaaayyy too kind!! JH....I must hear this on the epinette...can you make a video if you have time?? Phil...thanks for the encouragement...I'm getting there....you didn't get to witness all the outtakes of this video...you would laugh your butt off. RN...I bet you are right on that...long ingrained hand mechanics probably don't stand much of a chance at changing a whole lot...and thank you. Thank you friends Sam, Wayne and John! Sam...it is a sweet song....this is what it sounded like to my ears, so that's how it came out when I went to play. If its meant to be played as a dance tune, my version is probably waaaay to slow. Not sure on this tunes history so if any of ya'll know I'd love to hear.
Just played it thro again Cheryl! I have played it for yonks on the HD but not often on the MD, listening to you has made me want to redress the balance so to speak, and have just been 'waltzing' it thro' on the epinette ! (that takes it far enough away from this fine performance so as not to detract from it)
That's a very beautiful arrangement of a very beautiful tune. Indeed, I think all of us classical/fingerstyle guitarists who move to the dulcimer use (consciously or unconsciously) the same patterns for one as for the other. Enjoyed it immensely.
Old dog? I think not. Gazelle ormaybe magic ofthe unicorn. Grace, beauty and your appreaciation of your gift make all you share with us very special. La Marianne is done up so sweetly here. I know the work you put into it because you told us. To me, and I'm sure everyone who listens, it was well worth it CJ. Nicely done.
Thank you Karel !! Still one of my favorites.
Sehr schn gespielt!
Vielen Dank
Karel

Well, there goes the week-end! Will study this video very intense, because you show us precisely what you do.
Couple of questions
What song?
Is there a tab on line or sheet with a score?
And just a remark: I find the Blue Lion wonderful when played finger picking; the best of all!
Thank you Guy and Helen...I appreciate the nice comments!!
So lovely Cheryl! You play so beautifully!

The relaxed feel of your play is so fine, Cheryl! Yes, just beautiful.
That's really lovely and yes, as said before, sounds very peaceful!
Real nice and soothing! My touch is always too rough for finger style I think. I have to work at it. Good stuff.
Very pretty Cheryl!
That's just lovely Cheryl

Cheryl, that's such a beautiful and peaceful tune. Very good rendition!
Most enjoyable--I learned this tune (on this site, of course) --before I "converted" to n/d. Love the way you play it.
just Beautiful

CJ, you have accomplished in months what it takes us mere mortals years to do-noter playing, flat picking, finger picking, etc. WOW!!
