This song was inspired by an overheard conversation at a warming center for the homeless. They were talking about the joys and freedom of walking the streets of Detroit and all of the wonderful sights, sounds, and people you encounter while on foot. I never thought of it this way before. Sometimes it really is just a matter of perspective, isn’t it? Played on a Gold Tone Dulciborne tuned C-g-cc.
Thank you Joy W! I sure hope the loop in your head isn't driving you nuts!
I like this one a lot. Just listened to it again and now it is on a loop in my head. :)
Thank you Wayne! After I wrote this song, you and Patricia came to mind and I thought darn, I wish I would have wrote this one before we spoke . So I'm very happy that you found it and feel it's a good fit for the Hearts of the Dulcimer podcast Blues episode! Two weeks ago I played this publicly and asked an upright bass player to sit in. That was very fun...and sooo Bluesy!
Nicely played. We might need to include this one for the Hearts of the Dulcimer podcast Blues episode.
I'm sorry to hear that you've been under the weather Helen. I hope you're on the mend now. I'm glad you liked "Walkin' The D" - thank you! I find this one a lot of fun to play - but it would be even more fun in Tahiti.
Thank you for painting such a wonderful and relaxing picture, Terry! I will hold that thought as I am looking out at the currently frozen lake and use it as a reminder that it will thaw in about 2 more months. Watching the fishermen in the boats is much more calming than watching ice fishermen. They makes me nervous - the "what-if's", you know? I appreciate your kind compliment, Terry! Dan, it makes me very happy that you like my originals! Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave me a comment. That means a lot to me!
I love your original tunes, Christine. You've scored another hit with this one.
Only you Christine. I'll play this song when I am being lazy up the river, sitting back in my boat, not caring if fish bite or not. Perfect song for a laid back kind of guy.
Thanks for the song.
Wow Salt Springs! You need to fend off bears when helping the homeless??? Yikes! Well, I now have a new appreciation for my concrete jungle up here! My volunteering is done inside sorting, organizing, and distributing the large volume of donations we receive. After reading what you go through, I think that's a very fine (and safe!) place for me to be. Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication Salt Springs! Please be safe out there, okay?
Thank you Steve and Steven! I appreciate that. Hi Joe! I'm glad you liked it! It's nice to meet a fellow Blues fan. While I like all kinds of genres on the dulcimer, for some reason, a lot of my writing tends to lean towards the Blues end of it. Maybe it's because I find the Blues deeply expressive and also very versatile as to what can be communicated through them. I guess the why doesn't really matter, does it Joe? They're just plain old fun to play and that's reason enough, right?!
Dusty? I love your reviews! Not just on my posts, but on everyone's. You have a way with words that fills the mind with imagery and the ear with wonderful flowing music. I so admire that about you! And thank you very much for your generous compliment!
Love it! Thanx for keeping some of the stodgieness at bay. Hymns are fine but da blues is da bestest yet!
Well there you go again...cracking my mind.....you be da' champ. Funny thing, what you said about the conversation you overheard is so true....I've been working with the homeless for nearly 30 years now and for many that could be a verbatim quote. Thanks for starting my morning off with that reminder....off for the next 10 hrs or so delivering food to pantries, churches etc.; if the bear(s) did not raid my van there are a 1000 loaves of bread sitting outside waiting to go.....last week they opened the door and swiped the donuts and covered seats with sand.....oh well, a bear cub's gotta eat too. Blessin's on 'ya.
Ditto to what Steve and Dusty said...you got it goin' on Christine!
Cool tune Christine,And you get a lovely tone from that Dulcibourne.
Very cool tune, Christine. You mix the patient, lilting rhythm of "Walking After Midnight" with a real urban, bluesy sound. Nice work!
