The tune, if not the original words, is fairly well known in the UK too. It was rewritten as a union song ('Union Miners') sometime during the depression years I think, and crossed to the UK during the miner's strike in the 80's.
My great-grandfather was a riverboat carpenter and I hope he played this on his fiddle. A favorite of mine and you have really done a marvelous job on it. I'm sure your Mother loved this gift.

Thank you for the kind words Jim and Patty! I do appreciate the kind words!
Thank you so much Carrie, Dusty Turtle, Gregory, Patty, Bobby, Lesley, John and Ginney.
This project was such a blessing to me, and made my Mom so happy! It will be a family treasure. Dusty - yes I did both the dulcimer and guitar parts - with a LOT of technical help from my husband!
While I know that none of you know any of the people in the video, I hope that you can see your own family and roots while listening and watching
I really appreciate the kind words from all of you, and I just want to say that being part of the family of FOTMD has helped me get back into playing this instrument that I love so much!
Great video, Cindy! The photos of the family are so wonderful! What I have found about "dulcimer people" is they haven't forgotten from whence they came and that's a trait the world could use more of. Thank you for sharing.
This project is for my mom! It actually was her idea - she picked the song and said she wanted old family pictures - so I finished it today and will give it to her tomorrow - Easter Sunday
Cindy, you did such a great job on this! Love the music and the photos! Thanks for sharing with us!
Just listened to your version again and it gets better each time. Thanks for posting!
Great playing Cindy, and a great tune

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter!
That's really sweet, Cindy. I get a dulcimer in the right channel and a guitar in the left. Are you playing both of them?
Love the old family pics, too. I'm sure you mother will really treasure this.
Beautiful song, and I like the way you made it flow!
That's wonderful Cindy Thank you for sharing this with us!!!
