This sweet love song was written by Will Hays in 1877 and first recorded in 1918 by Betsy Lane Shepherd. It has since been recorded by many artists including Hank Snow and Mac Wiseman. Nicely played and sung, Gordon.  Thank you for providing a brief sketch about the history of this song, Gordon.  Songs such as this are wonderful objects out of a type of time capsule.  That first recorded version in 1918 came out either during WWI (or just after the Armistice) and the last great pandemic and must have meant so much to many who heard it.

Thank you Robin, I actually stumbled on this one when listening to some Mac Wiseman tunes (he is one of my favorite older style country music artists). I liked the song and the sentiment and so I researched its history to make sure that it is public domain and voila! It is! Originally, it was not country music but the country music folks must like it as several have adapted it to their style. I was able to tab from the original music in my simplistic method and here it is. I did have problems with the chorus so after several attempts, I omitted it from my version.
