Kemp's Jig

musician/member name: Mark Gilston
Duration: 00:02:12
description:
Mark Gilston plays an English country dance from John Playford's "English Dancing Master" (1651) on mountain dulcimer.
Will Kemp was a famous actor in Shakespeare's time. A 'jigg' or 'jegg' refers to a short unified set of performance pieces, as well as the dance form in triple meter (jig or gigue). This is not the only tune which goes by the name of "Kemps Jegg", which can lead to confusion. For a better known tune by the same name, check out:

Hi Dusty,  I discovered this tune after I'd already published my two books of English country dance tunes.  But I will be sending it out as a TAB OF THE WEEK, so you'll be getting the tab this week-end.  Yes it is a Gallier dulcimer.

That's a great, lilting tune, Mark.  IS that one in any of the books you have out?

I assume that is a Gallier dulcimer. It has remarkable balance of tone.
