Parting Hand

musician/member name: Mark Gilston
Duration: 00:01:50
Mark Gilston plays an old hymn tune by Jeremiah Ingalls (1764 -1838) on mountain dulcimer.
The tune first appears in the 1805 edition of "Christian Harmony" under the name "Tranquility". The tune appears again with new words and and a new arrangement by William Walker in the 1835 hymnal, "Southern Harmony". That arrangement was taken and used in "The Sacred Harp"' (1844), and it is the version which inspired my dulcimer arrangement.
