Mourning for Young Ernest WIP

Artist: Robin Thompson
Genre: Folk & Singer-Songwriter
Duration: 00:02:22

Ernest Inman, 21, was killed at the Greeley No. 1 mine by falling from the front end of a loaded car of coal and being run over. He was in the act of releasing the mule from the car while riding on the front of the car. -Information from a 1909 Ohio mine report. Ernest was Mark's great-uncle.

Poor Ernest. Tune is somber and earnest though. Always love your 'slide' work with your noter.

@Ariane I was hoping the sadness of the tragedy came through the tune.  Thank you for listening.

You perfectly convey the sad feeling of this very personal tune, Robin.

@Jill-Geary @Strumelia Thank you, ladies!  On this tune I used a leather waist tab cut from a pair of old blue jeans.  I really like the size and feel of it.

Robin, this is amazing and wonderful.

Lovely, Robin. Ditto what Steve, Dusty and John said. Your emotion exudes from your strings....

@John-Shaw @Dusty-Turtle @Steven-Berger Thank you, fellows.

The story of the death of Mark's great-uncle has another element, one added to the story told in the family:  Ernest had gotten new shoes which were slick on the bottom and it was the new shoes which caused him to slip and fall.  (The official record account reads that Ernest had gotten overbalanced so fell.)  A tragedy, to be sure.

A more expressive and plaintive lament I have never heard!  You have such a sensitive touch on those strings, Robin.

What a glorious melody - so beautifully played, full of emotion!
