Sorry I just saw this! Been I'll the last couple days... Kevin did an amazing job and the first two videos I posted were done on this dulcimer! It may look a little rustic but it plays beautifully and once you learn the way its tuned, it's actually easy to pick a song or two :) And yes, I prefer to play it with a noted, a little "old timey" zing ha ha!
It is all Poplar, The fret board was hollow and it was hollowed by hand ,looked like it was carved out with a pocket knife. top and back were also hand planned. No bracing was used. The fret pattern was probably laid out by ear, I had to tune the melody string a little sharp to get it to sound sweet. I know Stewart is having a blast playing this fine old dulcimer. I just wish we knew who made it.
Lisa this is one that Stewart sent to me for repairs. It was missing the peghead. I was unable to find any identifying marks or names while I had it apart. It is an old one so I only made a new head and sured up all the glue joints. No refinish done. It does have a nice sweet sound.

Some poplar is a little dark, but, this one has colored varnish on it.
Very nice, thank you for the info Kevin. I didn't know that poplar could age so dark! Glad it's being played and loved!

I especially love the way the hearts are so small and modest. Do you know what woods it was made from?
Yep Lisa ,there is a lot of noter wear on the finger board. It was well played. Maybe not played well. LOL
That's great Kevin. Whenever I see the melody string set a little ways away from the other strings, I know it was a noter player.

This looks wonderful. Are you playing it?
