Mark Gilston - Kemps Jigg

musician/member name: Music
Duration: 00:02:11
description:
Mark Gilston plays a well known English Renaissance tune on lap dulcimer made by Gary Gallier.
Will Kemp was a famous actor in Shakespeare's time. A 'jigg' or 'jegg' refers to a short unified set of performance pieces, as well as the dance form in triple meter (jig or gigue). This helps explain why a number of tunes called "jigg" are in 4/4 meter like this one. This is not the only tune which goes by the name of "Kemps Jigg". There is a dance in Playford's "Dancing Master" with the same name, which can lead to confusion.

Thanks for the laugh Dusty.   Not only the thumb but the pinky as well (:

Yes, that is Gary's newest model with a few extra modifications for my anchoring style.

Dusty Turtle:

Is that a Gallier dulcimer? It even looks like a Renaissance instrument!

Nice playing, as always.  You should take out insurance on your left thumb.
