"Farewell to Whiskey" was composed by renowned fiddler-composer Niel Gow in 1799 as a lament because due to the failure of the crop in Scotland in that year it was prohibited to use barley for making whiskey, Two years later the prohibition was rescinded (and he composed the strathspey "Welcome Whiskey back again").
I would be happy if you liked it...
(Best enjoyed with headphones!)

Thank you very much, Bobby, for your kind comment!
Wow Ariane! You continue to amaze me with your talent! The music, the video, the whole package! This is beautiful! Thank you for sharing with us!
Beautiful!
Thank you very much, Jim, for your kind comment.
wow really nice. i like how you play gentle on the instruments...
Thank you very much, Irene and Kevin, for your kind comments. I am very happy to read them.
Thank you very much, Dusty, for your kind comment - I was again enjoying to play the mountain dulcimer on the basis of your arrangement for this tune - I just added a few chords.
We loved to play this tune within our former band (our Scottish concertina player and dear friend Andrew introduced this tune to us some years ago) as well as "Welcome Whiskey Back Again" - these two tunes work perfectly together as a set.
ALSO it was VERY COOL how you had the color or non color settings on the videos. thank you for sharing with us all. I wondered what the background of that song was. aloha, irene
This is wonderful! You are so talented, Ariane.
Nice playing, Ariane! This is one of my favorite tunes. For some reasons it is often played as a fast reel in American jams, but you are right that it's a lament and I think you capture the melancholy feel just right! And that uke bass looks like a lot of fun to play.
Thank you so much, Robin and Dean, for your very kind comments.
Wonderful, Ariane!
You have so many "brushes"! I LOVE the bass uke!
Keep making magic!
How marvelous, Ariane! I am in awe of your talents, my friend.
Thank you very much, Gordon.
Perhaps the moonshiners found a substitute for the missing barley - I guess they had many ideas for experiments.😊
Beautiful music and playing Ariane. I do indeed like it. The history is very interesting, I wonder if the prohibition really stopped the moonshiners from making whisky.
I would like to share with you my first tune with a new member of my "instrument family" - a Harley Benton Ukulele Bass - which is much fun to play!
