Description:

An old Welsh love song with a hypnotically simple melody. Music by Joseph Parry (1841-1903) and lyrics by Richard Davies (1833-1877). It is often sung by Welsh male choirs, but I learned it from an album by Cerys Matthews. She sings it in C, so I tuned to CGC to learn the song and just stayed in that tuning for this quick recording.

Wow, such a nice tune, Dusty.  Thanks for posting it so all our ears could hear it, too.

Thanks for your comments, Robin & Strumelia.  I am playing a cherry/redwood dulcimer by Terry McCafferty tuned CGc.

You can learn a bit about the song, including lyrics in Welsh and English here .  I learned the tune from the Cerys Matthews album Tir , which is a beautiful compilation of traditional Welsh songs.

Sometimes it's the 'simple' old tunes that have the most charm. Just lovely, Dusty!
Please tell us a bit about the dulcimer you played it on.  dulcimer
