Cynthia Wigington:

That was a new tune to me Gordon, and beautifully played and sung on that new very rich sounding dulcimer. I think the 5 strings is a bit better for your big voice. Thank you for your posting. All's well enough in Vermont and I hope you all are well too.

Thank you for your kindness Cynthia. I am glad that all is well enough in your part of the world. So far we are enjoying a beautiful rich green Spring with adequate moisture for the crops. For the most part, folks are healthy and optimistic.

Gordon, really enjoyed hearing that song again,so realistic. There's a Newfoundland version that has the same melodic contours but in 3/4 time.I guess this song was a 'hit' around the English speaking world before records, etc.

Thanks Jamie, I appreciate your kind comment.

Nice, Gordon.  I'm currently reading The Unquiet Grave by Sharyn McCrumb.  But in her  book it's the mother who is grieving for her murdered daughter.  Thanks for giving the history of the song. Dulcinina

You are very welcome, dulcinina. I found several different variations, Joan Baez has a beautiful rendition where it is a young girl grieving for her lost love. Thanks for listening.
