What a beautiful instrument, Gregg. I LOVE the carved man of the "scroll". And as usual you play beautifully. Those extra drones do give an extra richness to the music. Wonderful! Thanks again for sharing your talents and this lovely instrument.

Well done...very well done.   I've always had a grand appreciation for Gabriel and Oatman.   By the way Gabriel did another in 8.8.8.6 meter w/refrain, called In Loving Kindness Jesus Came that you can find in the Mennonite Hymnal (#547) or just about anywhere else.   With your skill and amazing instruments it would sound out of this world.  Your hymn presentations can sure lift a weary old soul............Blessings On Ya und Danke!

The Lyrics to "Higher Ground" were written by Johnson Oatman Jr. in 1892. This tune for it was written by Charles H. Gabriel in 1898. I recommend YouTube channel "A cappella Hymns" as a helpful resource.

Can you tell me a little something about this hymn?

My Hummel or Hummle, I've seen it spelled both ways, means "Bumble Bee" in Swedish. The extra drone strings do make a big sound!
