Oh my, thank you on the group of 'dulcimer ancestors'. I am where you were 5 years ago, trying and playing but not anywhere yet. So very interesting. Yes, the strings are stiff, so I am trying to see what the best tuning would be for them to have that heavenly tone. I have even tried hitting the strings so not to have too much strum. Around the house, I have found many things to try as a noter, so far I like the glass and metal. So much to learn, yes starting over but with Christmas coming - my goal to play a few Christmas songs on it.
I was under groups and could not reply to your post so saying hi here.
What is the difference with the names and what about 'épinette des Vosges'
I just picked up one of these (or a "scheitholt" or zither) and looking for info on string gages and tunings to have them sound their best. Ben Seymour, is or was a member also makes and plays these drone dulcimers.
Would you consider starting a group on all things concerning these instruments, they are part of the dulcimer family and a beautiful addition.
