Yes, his book is on my Christmas list.I looked at that site and it is fascinating to see how many he has built...and to think that was only the dulcimers!....what an amazing craftsman he was...
Hi Lynn My Ledford is newer than yours, made in 1999. Yours was made in 1982. If you go the the official Homer Ledford website, there is a page you can link to that has almost all the dulcimers listed he made. Dulcimer number, year it was made, the wood, any special features, and who the first owner was. I believe all his later ones were made with the 6 1/2 fret, but the special tuners would have been an option on request. Also, there is a book written about Ledford and his dulcimer making - a must read.

It is a beauty isn't it?...I'm so technology challenged it's a miracle that I got the pics up!....the amazing thing about this dulcimer is even with its 40 year old strings it sounded lovely. I did change them out but am still on a learning curve as far as the wooden tuners are concerned.
I would love to hear this Lynn. it looks very lovingly made. Maybe you can find someone to help video it.

Wow Ken, I can't believe you had an original Thomas!...I noticed that your Ledford has a 6-1/2 fret. Did I see that correctly? All of mine have it except the Ledford but I love not having it... I play mine using my thumb as a noter so I can throw in occasional chords. Can anyone make a possum board...sort of one size fits all?

Oh I forgot to answer your question, I am so computer illiterate I have no idea how to video but am so grateful for those that do.... I learn so much from all of your postings

Ken, what a beautiful sound. Do you have it resting on some king of board?....I love the old sound too, that's why I was looking for one. I'm having an Edward Thomas repo from John Knoph made for me with that " mean tone" which I ordered before I won this, but goodness we can never have to many dulcimers now can we? Are you tuned DAA or Ebb?
Lynn, I hope you post a video so we can hear the sound of your Ledford. If you would like to listen to the sound of mine, I have a recently posted video of "Sourwood Mountain". I love the "old fashioned sound".

Hi Ken,I won it on ebay about 3 weeks ago!.... I feel so lucky. It was from the original owner who's husband was a friend of Edna Ritchie and he wanted to buy a dulcimer for his wife so she recommended that he buy one from Homer. The wood was from an old slave cabin which I think is remarkable. I love the double middle strings instead of a double melody. I still haven't figured out the fine tuners yet. They were creating a buzz when I put on new strings so I have them all the way up to prevent that. I've never had a dulcimer with wooden tuners and find it tough to push them in all the way but when it's tuned the sound is lovely. It was lovely even with the 40 year old strings! I feel so honored to own one of his dulcimers! If you have any tips please let me know!......Lynn

Lynn, where did you get your Ledford? It looks almost like mine, same woods and with the fine tuners (which are a real plus).
