The Ratcatcher's Daughter

musician/member name: Mark Gilston
Duration: 00:04:07
description:
Mark Gilston sings and plays an old English early music hall song. The words to Ratcatcher's Daughter were written in 1852 by Rev Edward Bradley (1827-1889) who wrote under the pen-name Cuthbert Bede. It was a parody of an earlier song and originally performed by Sam Cowell in a fake German accent. Later performers used more of a Cockney dialect. The song enjoyed a considerable revival in the early 1900s and was absorbed into the oral tradition.

I love when you sing these old songs Mark.

What a sweet/sad story!
I do like these old fashioned rhymings of "oughter"(ought to)" with "daughter". lol

Thanks.  It's part of the music I grew up with, so I love them as well.
