Barcarolle (Mountain Dulcimer - fingerpicking)

musician/member name:
Duration: 00:01:39
description:
Once again some classical music: the Barcarolle from the famous opera "The Tales Of Hoffmann" by Jacques Offenbach (1819-1880).A "barca" is another word for gondola (as they are famous for Venice in Italy), and a "barcarolle" is a song a gondolier might sing while steering his boat through the channels of Venice.I was not totally laid back (I always feel a certain tension as soon as the camera is on...) so there are some little mistakes and a little buzzing here and there. Anyway - I recorded it yesterday (Sunday) evening and wanted to finish it before the weekend is over. Hope you enjoy it anyway! The little gondola is public domain; an illustration by Paul Mercuri from 1861, taken from commons.wikimedia.org

That was BEAUTIFUL! I have always loved the song and hum it a lot. Thanks for playing it on the dulcimer.

Thanks Marion. :) I use the standard Setup (DAdd). Even though the melody string is doubled, I only pick the "inner" one with my index finger (I think many others pick the "outer" string with their thumb when fingerpicking).

But some day I might try equidistant setup. :)

Thank you all for your friendly comments! It's great to share my dulcimer with people all over the world (and especially in the country it originates from).

@Chuck: if that ever happens, let me know. I'd like to watch that as well... Grin.gif

I do my video editing with an old version of "Ulead Video Studio" (got about 10 years ago or so) that allows to lay an overlay track over the basic track. But I should look for newer software - my Ulead version can't cope with newer data formats like mp4 /H264 etc.

Well done Goschi! LOVE the gondola! Now, if John Keane could get Bigfoot to come across the shot like that in his dulcimer video... LOL! Grin.gif

Excellent, Goschi, and the little gondola was cute, too. Mistakes? They happen. I try not to listen for them but rather just enjoy the beautiful music. Great job.

Very nice Goschi, didn't hear the mistakes you spoke of. It is awesome what some folks can do with the dulcimer. I guess I will stick to building them so folks like you can make beautiful music. Kevin....

What editing software did you use to put in the little gondola? Really fun :)

Awesome job Goshchi. I was just thinking about a gondola ride and listening to the music with my eyes closed as you played the song. When I opened them the boat was rowing across my screen. Very Cool, that made me laugh out loud. The playing was awesome and I enjoyed the gondola ride!Grin.gif

My dad, being an opera buff, used to "subject" us to lots of opera records when I was young. I fondly remember this tune from that distant past - thanks!
