I thought that I had better update my profile!!! I'm not as young as I used to be in my photo - but still young enough to head north of the Arctic circle in winter to get some telemark skiing in. But music is, as always, still my main hobby
I recorded this tune with a local banjo player Nick Reece 11 years ago now. I was playing a standard McSpadden cherry dulcimer. I can't remember if I was running 3 strings (melody and two drones) or 4 strings (melody and 3 drones). For a key of G tune like this I was, as Dusty points out, most likely to have had all the strings tuned to a D note - but most likely with the bass drone an octave below the middle drone(s). We sat down and recorded the whole album in two sessions in Nick's 16th century cottage overlooked by the mountain Cadair Idris.
@Leny-Sue, Robin Clark has not been active here for a few years, and he formally retired from running Bird Rock Dulcimers. I am not sure how much he is still playing these days.
To try to answer your question, he and the banjo player here are playing in the key of G, but I think the drones are Ds, so I would guess he's tuned ddd, often referred to as "Galax tuning," and the tonic or homebase of the song is on the third fret. Just a guess on my part.
Great to “see” you after so long a while. Hope everything has gone well with you!
Robin! Robin! It's great to hear from you again! Welcome back!
Thanks Strumelia!
Great to see that the FOTMD is doing so well.

Wonderful to see your post, Robin!

Listening to your recordings from way back.
May I ask for the tuning on this song?
Thank you.
