Hello all and thank you for your comments. They are always appreciated.

Robin - I don't know if I'm the only player who uses his/her right hand the way I do; I can only tell you that I haven't consciously copied anyone's technique there. I know there are other people, though, who also prefer an "in" strum for emphasis rather than an "out" strum. I like it because it gives you what little bass dulcimers have right up front (because you hit that string first), and it carries for a bit while you are then picking out melody lines on the other two strings. I think it contributes to the mellow sound I personally enjoy.

John - I'm embarrassed to say that I have not been playing my HD much. It's a shame because it's such a pretty instrument and I really enjoy it. But I look at it, and the prospect of having to tune 50+ strings, and then I look at my fretted dulcimers with their 3 little strings, and you can see which I end up playing. :)

Precise and uncluttered, nothing like the way I play, lol, thanks Brian ! Have meant to ask for a while, do you still play your HD as much as the MD? I really have to make a big effort to run thro' some of the old repertoire these days, I think it must be down to the influence of this site. (don't tell S.......a I said that)

That's a lovely tune beautifully played Brian. I think that you are the only player I have seen who works their right hand the way you do? That individual note flatpicking with an in-strum lead looks really natural and absolutely "right" for your sound. When I try to copy it I find it actually develops a slightly richer, mellower tone than the more usually seenflatpicking from an out-strum lead.

Thanks Rocky! I'm glad you liked it. I started playing in the mid 1990s, but then by 2000 or so I had stopped as I became very busy with graduate school, work, life, etc. Picked it up again sometime last year or possibly the year before.
