Just finished this a couple of hours ago, so here it is with just one string. I highly recommend this kit for anyone thinking about making one, McSpadden did...
You don't eh John? Well, I know why you JUST keep building them...why you JUST had to have JUST...then there's still a meantone DW we're both willing to spash out on...but I'm sure glad you like that one too, and you were a big help. Need to fool with the tuning gears though, they're slippy and it's putting me up a tree. It's also a real long VSL so don't know how keen I'd be to chord on it, and oh heck, I'm curious and interested in dulcimers. Fascinatin' ladies, ain't they JUST.
That's funny as it's one string - that's a joke right? No? Well, I only had the first string on and it is an a, as in Daa. Actually the string set that came with it was Daa, and I usually play ERB in Dgd, and I didn't know it would work in Daa, so I did it on one string. Please watch the one all strung up too, it sounds better with all the strings.
Thanks, I have to admit I am pleasantly relieved it came out so well.Do you think I could get that old lady to make me another strung Dad? It's a fine kit and I'm grateful for the help I got along the way, and am playing your ever-so-lovely Angels We have Heard...keep that noter going, you sound fine with it.
Thank you Ken. The truth is I have it in Dgd and I wasn't sure how as it came with a set of Daa strings. After I strung it up I tried it and it is just fine in Daa as is. I always want to hear the ones played that people build, and I was determined to put it up there no matter what. It made it easier that you had my back the whole time. Thanks sweet soul.
Thank you Ben, and so nice knowing someone of the extreme north. Hope someday we can pluck a tune together and grin our heads off at the very joy of it all.
Ken thanks so much. I don't know where you are, but someday we need to get together and have a good long session of goat ropin' music, and many dance tunes. Loved your Sourwood Mountain.
Thank you Frank. I was astounded at the sound. Every time I look at your avatar, all I can think about is all those Blue spruce trees you planted to get another color in winter.
Well thank you Pam, I thought my face might just crack in half and fall on the floor at that point I was so tired, but I guess the happy showed through. I guess I am kind of old school too Kevin - I had to do the fiddle edges, the old spoke shave is just too cool a tool not to use. I'm not sure I want to know ALL the things you noticed Kevin! LOL

Told you way back you'd built a good'un, don't know why you keep spashing out on more..........

Thank you Lisa. It was not easy building it on my kitchen counter. I'm rather a proud mama! Love this song.
I just noticed this video today. I'm so impressed- looks and sounds beautiful, even with just one string. Great job!

That was good. What tuning did you use on this?
Elk River Blues All Strung Up is a better version Terry - all the strings on it. Thanks.

Pretty wood and nice tone with the one string.

The dulcimer is beautiful, be proud of yourself Cynthia. I, too, am glad, you put the fiddle edges on it.
Thanks James, and thanks for sharing this wonderful journey.
