a short film of professional landscape photographs of the English Lake District set to the music of The Water Is Wide, performed by Dan Evans on mountain dulcimer - this is the instrumental version of the song from Dan's Autumn Dance CD (DSM7 / 2002) with lovely violin from Sylvia Seaton
Question:
The GT-1 you use on your solid-body electric dulcimer, I'm thinking tuned DAA. My dulcimer I have set up with the GT-1 is tuned DAd, if I would retune - do you know if all my sounds I have programed now would still sound good in a different tuning or would I need to reprogram many new sounds?
I am planning on checking a few different tunings because I am curious how it will sound. I love the different sounds I have been able to create, matching then to the different music. I Just thought I would see if you have already done this.
Thanks again for all your help you have given me
marg.
thank you all for your kind comments - the dulcimer in this film sounds so good for a number of reasons ....
1 - it is simply the best sounding dulcimer I have ever heard - see the 'instruments' page on my website https://www.english-dulcimer.com/instruments/
2 - it is in Ionian (DAA) tuning, although in key of E (EBB) - the best and only sensible general tuning for the dulcimer
3 it is very well recorded in a top studio using two high spec mics, one on each bout and a pickup too
... and I hope I played it nicely :)

So soothing and sweet. Lovely combo with violin. Thank you for sharing this treasure.
Very nice.
We play a lot in my part of Kentucky. We have a lot of Scots/Irish, at least I know I am. It's a lovely tune you did there Dan!
the Lake District images have been taken over a ten year period - we go every year but the light has to be right for good shots
thnx all for your kind comments
I love this tune and, paradoxically, although I've been to Scoitland a number of times, I learned this arrangment in Kentucky, killing time in a motel room between two festivals
The group I play with will be playing'The Water is Wide' come the end of the month.
Oh, I wish we sounded like this.
Beautiful
