The Sussex Carol on octave dulcimer

musician/member name: Dusty T
Duration: 00:01:02
description:
On Christmas morning, 2018, while waiting for my mother-in-law to arrive, I recorded this traditional English carol dating from the 17th century. I am playing an octave dulcimer made of walnut and ceder by Ron Ewing and tuned DAd.

Thanks so much, @Jan-Potts.  This tune works particularly well on little dulcimers.

Lovely video, Dusty!  I enjoyed both the tune and the demonstration of your Ewing dulcimette.

Thanks, @Steven-Berger.  Yes, this little octave dulcimer really rings out.  Ron Ewing recommends using the same string gauges on this model and the bigger baritone dulcimette, which is about the size of a Ginger. That means the strings here are really taut, which is in part why I think they get such volume and that bell-like tone.

Very nice, Dusty! That's one of the best little dulcimers I've heard!

Thanks, @Sam.  I don't know for sure that this little dulcimer itself is happy, but it sure makes me pretty happy when I play it! sun
