Jan, you are welcome to play it as much as you want. I'm still having trouble getting a good sound with the noter. It's a lot harder than I thought it would be!
Guess I'll get to try it out pretty soon! It's a lovely instrument...has a lot more detail work than I was expecting. I love that spalted maple, too--and the holes!
It's made of wormy maple with a rosewood fret board. It is a Russell style. It has a 6 1/2 fret since I wanted that. The frets go all the way across. I can use a reverse capo and go to a minor key. I'm having fun with it. I seem to like the sound more with a pick rather than a quill. I'm also trying to get used to using a noter. Don made me a few and sent with the dulcimer. I can't decide if I like using the index finger on top or thumb on top.
It's a challenge for sure. I've never been a noter player, so it will take some work noting the 2 equidistant strings. He also sent me a good supply of turkey feathers to use.

Is that a "Russell style" Galax? Has Bonnie's father's star thang on the peghead...
