Danny Boy (Londonderry Air) played on Blue Lion. I just started working on this yesterday, but wanted to post something for St. Patrick's Day so forgive my mistakes.
Gail, what brand of pick up are you using on your blue lion?
Hi Bob, this is a pick-up that has sort of a putty like substance to stick to the dulcimer. I've found it's best to use a piece of painter's tape on the dulcimer and then put the putty like substance on top of that - you get less residue left on the dulcimer. It's attached to an Acoustic brand amplifier which my husband bought for me. It's way bigger and does a lot more than I will ever need!
Thanks to everyone for your nice comments. This is from a book of Irish tunes arranged by Maddie McNeill. I just started working on it day before yesterday, so it's not quite as smooth as I would like it yet. I'm still relying on her tab to play it since it's not all committed to this old brain yet!
Nice job on one of the prettiest songs ever written! I love some of the chords you use as well as your patience in letting some notes and chords just ring out.
That's lovely Gail. Slow well known tunes are some of the hardest to play. I've played this a few times in noter drone style and it is very difficult to create the 'space' to allow the listener to get drawn in. It is a little easier with added chords but not much. You are doing a wonderful job there of keeping the tune simple but leading me from phrase to phrase. Beautiful
I have played this (but not fully learned it yet) on my dulcimer. I also sang this at the country jam on Tuesday. I guess I did all right...I am not an Irish tenor though...high notes are difficult.
Thanks Patricia, Benjamin and Caleb-Dan Bennett. I just sold this Blue Lion a few weeks ago and seeing this video again makes me miss it.
Beautiful! One of my favoritest songs. Well done.
That is lovely.
Very nice playing Gail!!
Very nice, sensitive and expressive playing!
