A beloved Christmas Carol, lyrics written by Father Joseph Mohr, melody composed by Franz Gruber for guitar accompaniment. First performed Dec. 24, 1818 at St. Nicholas parish church in Oberndorf in present day Austria. The song was translated into English by John Freeman Young, an Episcopal priest serving at Trinity Church in New York City. Stille Nacht / Silent Night was sung simultaneously in German and English by troops during the Christmas truce of 1914 during World War I.
I am very moved to hear you sing it also in German - thank you very much for sharing, Gordon and Merry Christmas!
What a rich voice (both you and the dulcimer)!
I love it it still, Gordon.
Merry Christmas Folks! I didn't have time to record a new video so I decided to repost this classic. Please have a joyous Christmas filled with all that is good!
Gordon,
I got your message on your recording system. Thanks a lot.
I haven't figured the message route as yet. Believe me, I am stone age.
Merry Christmas
Wow Gordon! You blew me out my front door. Thanks, I needed to get the mail anyway.
Merry Christmas!!!!!!
Terry
PS: Beautiful instrument. Tell you what. Trade you, straight up, four student dulcimers for your one. Deal?
Patty thanks so much for listening, it's one of my favorites.
Lisa, I can hardly believe that you were even born 56 years ago let alone attending kindergarten. The song sings so well in German doesn't it?
Excellent! I can imagine in my mind the German and English troops singing this. Each language has it's own beauty. Thanks for sharing!
You know Gordon, 56 years ago when I was in kindergarten in public school in NYC, our teacher Mrs. Minz was very musical and played the piano. She taught our whole class to sing Stille Nacht, in German ...we were all only 5 years old and none of us could speak a word of German! But we learned it. Amazingly, I can still remember every word, and I very much enjoyed listening to you sing it. Takes me waaay back.
Lexie, is Smiley dog a self taught singer or has he had lessons?
Very nice Gordon, I love this hymn. Smiley dog quietly sang along with you and me.
