Basse Dances were popular "walking tempo" dances in 15th and 16th century courts. French author Thoinot Arbeau preserved this melody in his book of many popular dances of his day called Orchsographie (1589). Peter Warlock used a version of this piece for the first movement of his Capriol Suite. I arranged this piece for fretted dulcimer and am playing it on an Aeolus Dulcimer built by Dale Foye ( www.aeolusmusic.com ).
I, too, am a big fan of walking tempo dance pieces from this period. Well done and thank you so much for sharing, Guy.
I keep coming back to this one, Guy. I'ts a beautiful piece and you play with precision, energy, and feeling.
Thank you very much, Edward!!
Thanks Mike and Bucko.
Nice! (Also, I'll never how you folks use your thumb like this.)
Thank you John, James and Brian!
Very pretty!
this is very awesome Guy! thank you for sharing your talents with us.
Very nice Guy!
Thank you Peter! Those Renaissance pieces are most evocative aren't they? I appreciate your kind words and I'm glad you liked it.
Extraordinary! I can see the ballroom of a castle, candles and striding couples in festal costume in my mind's eye...
Thank you so much Dusty! I have a LOT of work left on my CD. I'm hoping it'll be done this year though!!
Oh so pretty, Guy! Nice work! It's so interesting for me to watch you play after attending Ruth Barrett's workshop. I actually understand what your left hand is doing now!
So when can I pre-order your CD?
Thank you Peter and Matteo!
Great stuff Guy. More of this and you'll have me fingerpicking!
